Spear-nosed Bat
Spear-nosed bats are nocturnal, sparrow-sized mammals. They are different from most other bats in that they eat nectar from flowers instead of insects. There exist several types of flowers that attract bats because they are large enough for a bat to insert its head and tongue inside. These flowers only open during the night, when bats are most common. When the bats drink the nectar they pollinate the flowers by carrying pollen from one plant to another, helping them reproduce to create fruit. These bats, like most others in the world, live in caves deep within the rainforest. Although they are not in serious danger of extinction right now, continual deforestation could threaten their survival.
