    Week One:

The students will be asked to hunt for words at home that contain the pattern or sound we are studying.  They should record the words found in their Assignment Book.  They should bring their list to class and be prepared to share their words.

    Week Two:

Students need to complete at least two spelling activities at home to be prepared for the test.  These activities are due on Friday.  Your child does not need to turn in the actual activities, just the sheet you have to initial.

Homework Reminders:

  • When working with your child on his or her homework, feel free to correct any spelling errors you see.  If you do make corrections, please circle the word(s) you have corrected so that it/they can be recorded in the "Words to Learn" section of your child's Word Study Journal.

  • Students may have math homework.  This will be assigned by your child's math teacher and will be written in his/her assignment book.  Math homework is given about three times a week.  There are no specific days designated for math homework--it depends on the week and what the students cover each day.

  • Parents, please make homework a top priority by scheduling a block of time for your child to study spelling, study multiplication facts, read, and complete homework.  Children need routine and structure to be successful.  Homework should take between 30-40 minutes a night plus additional time for studying and reading.

  • Homework packets are assigned every Monday.  The third grade team gives each student a packet that is usually due on Friday (unless there is a short week or a project due).  This way, if students are involved in extra-curricular activities, you can plan accordingly.

  • The teachers go over the homework assignments with the students in class before they go home.
