Announcements from the Third Grade Team:

February 1 - 5

  • Please remember to cover a box (shoebox, cereal box, etc.) at home with white, pink, or red paper.  These boxes are due on the Thursday, Feb. 11.  The kids will be decorating them in school for their valentine's day cards.

  • MSA (Maryland State Assessment) testing will begin in March. Third graders will take the Reading MSA on March 8th and 9th. They will take the Math MSA on March 12th and 15th. Please do not schedule any appointments on these days.

  • If you would like to see the format for writing a BCR or the BCR format, please go to the NEWS page and click on the links under reading. You will also be able to find a link to the thoughtful and personal reflections list that students use when writing journal letters.

  • **Weekly Folders will be sent home every THURSDAY.  Please check your child's binder for the folder.  Please review their graded work and sign the folder for your child to turn in on  Friday.  Keep all graded work at home.  Thanks!

  • The following link will take you to a website for Maryland's Voluntary State Curriculum. On this site you can find practice MSA assessment samples, explanations of the curriculum, and much more! This link can also be accessed by viewing the Back-To-School page.

  • Quizzes: Teachers give students one day notice for math quizzes.  However, teachers do not have to give advanced notice for a social studies or science quiz because students are expected to know the material on an ongoing basis.

  • Please save all of your child's math work.  Any papers that come home graded should be put in a safe spot at home or back in their math folder.  These papers will serve as a study guide for a quiz or the post-assessment.  Any work that has not been graded must stay in their math folder until the end of the unit.

  • Please be aware that some third graders are allergic to all kinds of nuts.  When sending in a snack or birthday treat with your child, please keep this in mind.  Thank you!
