AP World History Two Summer Assignments Name:______________________
Visit a Place of Worship

Religion in a variety of cultures is an emphasis of study during the first semester. To prepare for this, we ask that you visit TWO major places of worship here or in another city. Select the ones that you are not familiar with or have not visited. A link to the list of possible places to visit is here. Take notes during your visits (preferably a guided tour) and prepare a two page (500 words) organized, descriptive paper for the first day of class (50 points) which covers the following:

  • Physical description of the buildings with architectural highlights
  • Notable religious artifacts
  • Spirit or ambiance of the buildings or the places
  • Other observations appropriate to your visits

Instructions for Writing Assignment On the first day of school, you will turn in a two page (500 words) organized essay worth 50 points. Be sure to start the essay with an introductory paragraph that identifies which buildings you visited and the belief systems they support. The first body paragraph should compare the architectural highlights and religious artifacts. The second body paragraph should compare the spirit or ambiance of the two buildings or places. Don’t forget to conclude with a paragraph that summarizes the similarities and differences of the two places you visited.
