IB Assessments

The International Baccalaureate examiners assign a score for internal and external assessments. The final score that a student receives is a culmination of these assessments. Scores range from 1 to 7 (with 7 being the highest).

The awarding of the IB Diploma requires students to meet defined standards and conditions including a minimum total of 24 points and the satisfactory completion of the extended essay, Theory of Knowledge, and CAS activities. The maximum score that a student may receive is 45. The student may also receive up to 3 bonus points for an exceptional essay and work in ToK. These points are not included in the total award of assessment scores.

We strongly encourage our students to remember this … To receive an IB Diploma, an average score of “4” is required, thus any score of “4” or above is considered to be passing and scores of “5” or “6” are excellent scores (and often granted college credit).
