College Process - Submitting Applications
Steps To Follow:
- Be certain you have either an SAT I or ACT score on file in the registrar's office. If you have not yet taken either test, you need to get signed up for the earliest available date. Many colleges also require SAT II tests. The specific SAT II needed varies from one college to the next. This is a requirement students must research for themselves. Keep in mind the SAT I and II may not be taken on the same Saturday. Registration forms may be obtained at the Career Center. Students needing the TOEFL TEST - Call Sylvan at 301-718-9893. If you take your exams, in your senior year, please forward your scores through www.collegeboard.com directly to your college of course.
- Your "Senior Brag Sheet" should be completed and handed into the Counseling Office. If available, a copy of your college essay would also be helpful. Keep a copy for your records, for other usage. (ex. teacher recommendations)
- The YELLOW "Authorization to Release Records" form needs to be signed and on file in the registrar's office. Nothing is sent without this form being completed!
- Many colleges ask for specific teacher recommendations. Find out the requirements for each college to which you are applying and then:
- Make your request personally and talk to the teacher at least 20 days before the recommendation is due
- Provide the teacher with a stamped, addressed envelope
- Follow up with a thank you note when the letter is written
