Spring AD Spring Report

The spring season is a busy time at Springbrook High School.  While we say goodbye to the melting snow and to our 13 winter teams, we welcome blooming flowers and our 18 spring teams.  Spring brings high expectations for our teams and student athletes, but also sadness in saying farewell to a great group of young people and their families.  Around the corner is graduation for our seniors; to them we bid farewell with gratitude, not only to the class of 2011, but to their supportive parents as well.

March 1st brought us an overlap of seasons: Winter sports are continuing, as baseball, softball, lacrosse, track, tennis, and volleyball are beginning to work towards their championship seasons.  The spring teams will have to work hard to try to match the impressive GPA achieved by the winter teams.

Athletics is a very important part of Springbrook High School, however, we are just as proud and excited about many other extracurricular activities at The Brook.  We eagerly await performances that include the spring band concert, the choral concert, and the school spring play.

For those not participating in the spring sports season, keep in mind, there are still many opportunities to stay involved as well as prepare for success in the upcoming seasons.  Year-round study hall is available.  If you are interested in receiving academic support, see Mrs. Amatucci or your seasonal assistant athletic director.  The weight room is also open for students in the spring, usually on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, from 2:30-4pm, with  an up-to-date physical on file in the athletic department, a parent permission slip, and academic eligibility. Whatever the choice, I encourage you to take advantage of this spring, either through academic support, physical support, or a balance of both. Remember, champions are made in the off season.  Take the first step in ensuring your success for next year!

As, we celebrate the end of winter season and the start of spring season, it is important to remember that next year’s fall season is just around the corner.  You can find related dates of interest on the athletic web page at www.springbrookhs.org/athletics, or listen to daily Springbrook announcements.  Fall tryouts and practices begin August 13th for all sports except golf (August 15th). Those specific dates can be found on the web page.   Please check the listings or inquire with your coach when making vacation plans in order to avoid missing important tryout days.

Finally, we invite each family to come to a game, a musical concert, or the school play.  During this developmentally challenging time of our teens, parents may sometimes feel a disconnect from their children and the high school world.  A great way to remedy this is by showing support for your child and his/her friends by participating in the school activities that are so meaningful to them.  We can send no greater message of love and support than by attending the events that our children work so hard to prepare for.
