Sligo Middle School 7th grade students are on a mission to inform the public about the dangers of everyday cleaning products and about how one can easily change to safer, natural, “greener” cleaners. Before we can inform others we must do some research ourselves.
	Introduction
Everyone wants to take care of the environment. Communities are "going green" in an effort to save money, save resources, and save our earth. But really, what does it mean to be "green"? How can you show you care about the earth? Now you will begin a quest to find out why, what, and how YOU can help the environment by Going Green and Clean!+

	Task
It's time to start researching the implications of using over-the-counter cleaners instead of more "greener" products. Complete the process below by visiting the websites and taking notes on the Going Green worksheet.
	Process
Step 1: Visit this website and answer the following: • What are some common symptoms one may experience when using cleaning products at home? • Name two examples of long-term health conditions that may be caused by exposure to household cleaning chemicals? • What types of cleaners are the “prime offenders” to our health? Why? What two chemicals are deadly if mixed together? Step 2: Visit this website and answer the following: • Read this page and choose three common household cleaners. Name the chemicals inside them and describe how the chemicals inside them may harm your health. Use compete sentences. Step 3: Visit this website and answer the following: • What are the top 10 all natural cleaning supplies? List them and one use for each! Step 4: Visit the following websites for recipes to make common household cleaners: Care 2 Make a Difference Herbal Household EarthEasy • Window Cleaner • Soft Scrubber • Oven Cleaner • All-Purpose Spray Cleaner • Furniture Polish • Deodorizer/Air Freshener • Mold Killer • Bathroom Cleaner
	Conclusion
Congratulations, your quest is over and you will now have a greater depth of knowledge about what it means to be “green and clean!” We only have one Earth, and we need to treat it with care. Every little thing you do to help the Earth now, will make for a better future for the generations to come. It's not easy being "green," but with your help, we're on our way!
