*MS. EMILY SUDBRINK was honored at May 4th ceremony for contributions to the success of students with special education needs.  Read commendation letter.  Congratulations!

*MS. MARY HOCHKEPPEL  was selected as a 2009 Distinguished Music Educator of Yale University and a delegate to attend the 2009 Symposium on Music in Schools.  With over 425 nominations from 46 states, she was one of the 50 honorees to be selected for her achievements in the profession of music education.  The Symposium will take place on the Yale University campus on June 10-11, 2009.  Events will begin on the evening of June 10 with a welcome dinner.  Featuring a keynote address, the opening dinner will also bring together the distinguished music educators to meet each other and receive their awards.  On the June 11th morning session, the attendees will explore the role of music in the general classroom.  The afternoon session will focus on El Sistema, Venezuela's unique music education system.  Musicians will also have a choice of workshops by Matthew Shay and Jeb Gist, two alumi of the 2007 International Symposium on Music in Schools.  The Symposium will conclude with a musical celebration on Wednesday evening.  All of her travel, accommodations and conference fees will be paid by the Yale School of Music and the Yale College Class of 1957 endowment.  Here is a link to a listing of the selected 2009 Distinguished Music Educators of Yale School of Music at Yale University.  The MCPS Bulletin also featured Ms. Hockkeppel's achievement in a recent publication.

*LIVE FROM THE FIELD!   During April, science teacher, Ms. Dana Frye, worked with scientists from Tulane University and seven other school teachers to gather data for a study on "Caterpillars and Climate Change."  To find out more about Ms. Frye's travels, go to the Landings Page or visit her Blog.
