Attendance Procedures and Policy
STUDENTS:
- Submit absent notes directly to the Attendance Office within THREE days of returning to school. After the three days, absence becomes unexcused regardless of the reason.
- Students requesting early dismissal must obtain an Early Departure Pass from the Attendance Office before 1st period. Every student issued an Early Departure Pass must sign out at the Attendance Office at the time of departure. Failure to sign out will result in an unexcused absence even with a note.
- A physician's note is required for any absence of five or more days due to illness.
- Students who arrive AFTER 7:40 AM must sign in at the Attendance Office. Students who arrive between 7:25-7:40 AM report to their First Period classroom and turn in their excuse note to the teacher. After 7:40, failure to sign in will result in an unexcused absence even with a note.
- Missing fifteen (15) minutes of any class constitutes an absence from that class.
- Students who anticipate being absent should submit an Absence Request Form to their assistant principal ONE WEEK prior to the day of their absence, i.e. college visits, school related activities, etc. Absence Request Forms are available in the Attendance Office. See Student Handbook for specific criteria for college visits.
- The only excused absences are for:
- Death in the immediate family
- Illness of pupil, Medical Appointments
- Court Summons, Religious Holiday
- Violent Storms, State Emergencies
- Authorized work or activity
- Lack of school bus transportation
- Notes excusing absences must include:
- Student's full legal name (printed)
- ID number
- Date(s) of absence
- Reason for Absence
- Phone number of parent (work and cell phone)
- Parent/Guardian signature
- Your parents or guardian should call the attendance office between 7:00 AM to 8:00 AM to report an absence at 301-924-3206.
