Practicing Tips
It is recommended that you practice six nights a week for 30 to 60 minutes. To make best use of this time and to keep practice time efficient and effective, I recommend the following :
- Set a reasonable goal for your practice session
- Once a goal is set, decide how you plan to reach your goal.
- Practice only those sections which need attention (my rule of thumb is to play any section 10 times in a row correctly before moving on to another section.)
- Practice from slow tempos to faster tempos so that you can concentrate and get it right the first time. Don't reinforce bad habits by practicing passages incorrectly without fixing mistakes, (bad habits die hard!!).
- At the end of your session, ask yourself whether or not you attained your goal. If you did, congratulate yourself on a job well done, if not make a note to spend time on it the next day.
