Grading Policy

The grading policy for all bands and orchestra is on a point collecting system. Grades are determined by collecting 100 points and are assigned as follows:

A = 90-100 points
 B = 80 - 89 points
 C = 70 - 79 points
 D = 60 - 69 points
 E = 0 - 59 points  

Collecting points for your grade is based upon class activities and school related participation. Points are collected as follows::  

Points

 20 Playing tests*
 20 Concert attendance
 30 Written tests / quizzes
 15 Class attendance (-3 points per unexcused. absence)
 15 Following rehearsal procedure
 

* Playing tests may be retaken for a higher grade

 Extra credit points may be collected by participating in activities not assigned as part of your class or school participation. A maximum of 20 points may be collected in any of the following ways

 Points

 20 Participation in school related extra-curricular activities
 20 Private lessons
 20 Solo & Ensemble Festival
 10 Audition for County / State Honors Ensemble
 20 Participation in County / State Honors Ens.
 10 Performance outside of class activities
 10 Written evaluation of a live musical performance
 5 Band / Orchestra staff duties

 -- Other activities approved by Director  

All extra-credit points must be documented by either a note or a program / ticket stub in order to receive credit, Performance evaluations must be submitted on a completed form available from the director. A sample evaluation is provided on page 10 of this handbook.
