A Word About Wikipedia
While Wikipedia is a convenient source of information about many things, its articles are in a constant state of revision. Since these articles can be edited by anyone, they cannot be relied upon to be a totally correct, reliable source of information. Use this information source with caution, and always double-check any facts with other, more authoritative sources such as print encyclopedias and reference sources or our online subscription databases. Wikipedia may not be cited as a reference source in academic research, at either the high school or college level. For more on this subject, read the sections titled Using Wikipedia as a research tool and Strengths, weaknesses, and article quality in Wikipedia on the Wikipedia: About web page.

Website Directory
Visit the Media Center Website Directory for additional helpful Internet resources. Click on "Website Directory" at right for more information. Your suggestions for this directory are welcome.

Public Libraries
Montgomery County's excellent public library system has many valuable information resources. Visit their website by clicking here. Visit a branch and sign up for a library card. This card entitles you to borrow materials for free and to use the library's online reference services at any internet computer.

College Libraries
Many local college libraries are good sources of information. Students may visit the libraries to use their print materials. Montgomery College allows students with proper identification to borrow print materials. The school websites also have good web directories for homework help.

Information Literacy
The ability to locate, collect, organize, interpret, and share information are important skills. The MCPS Information Literacy Skills Framework provides descriptions and indicators of these various skills. The information literacy skills that students learn in their research activities at Sherwood High School prepare them to be lifelong learners.
