Black-Eyed Susan Book Award Program

The Black-Eyed Susan Book Award Program, named after Maryland's official state flower, is a program sponsored by the Maryland Association of School Librarians to encourage school students to read quality, contemporary literature. Each year a panel of Maryland school librarians chooses lists of outstanding books for various grade levels. The books may be fiction or non-fiction, and need to have been published in the last few years. Students then read some or all of the books over the course of the school year, and ultimately vote for their favorite book. This is a great way for students to discover fun, new books to read for their own enjoyment. It is also fun to see which books are selected as the best by students from all over the state of Maryland.

You can borrow copies of this year's books from the Media Center. In order to be eligible to vote for your favorite book in April, you need to have read at least 3 of the books. We recommend that you try to read five or more of the books so you have a wider selection to choose from when you vote. Click here for a list of this year's books. Come to the Library Media Center to borrow the books and for more information.
