Health Services

A public health nurse supervises all health room services which include hearing and vision testing and the treatment of injuries. He/she acts as a resource to the faculty and community, and directs students to health department services.

In case of illness or injury (of an emergency nature) students may come directly to the health room.

In case of non-emergency illness or injury, the student should obtain a pass from the appropriate teacher and then report to the health room.

If the nurse determines that the student should go home, the nurse will contact the parent for authorization. Students who go home "ill or injured" but do not go through the health room will be considered unexcused.

It is a Sherwood High School policy, in accordance with MCPS policy, that no student should be carrying medication to school. If a student needs to be on medication at school, the following procedure is to be followed:

  1. Obtain a medication administration form from the health room.
  2. Form must be completed by parent and doctor.
  3. Medication must be brought to the school by an adult. It must be in the original prescription bottle or for over-the-counter medications in a brand new bottle
  4. The form discussed in step 2 must accompany the medication.
In the event the health room is closed, students should report to the main office.
