About Ms. Coogan

Ms. Coogan
I spent my early years in California, then moved east to Maryland. At the end of elementary school I ventured with my family to France where I had the challenging yet amazing experience of being immersed in a new language and culture. I believe this experience was part of what has made me more sensitive and understanding of my ESOL students needs and frustrations in adapting to life in a new country. This was also the beginning of my love of travel.

I have a BA in Early Childhood Education from University of Maryland, and a M.A.T. from Georgetown University in Linguistics and Teaching English as a Second Language. I have had many wonderful opportunities to live, work, and travel overseas. I taught in Czech Republic on a Fulbright Teacher Exchange, and in Mexico and Bolivia on a U.S.I.A. teaching fellowship. I also spent two years in Turkey teaching young children and adults, as well as the U.S. ambassador's household staff. I was also lucky enough to spend a summer training high school English teachers in Hubei, China. I have been teaching ESOL at Sherwood High School for the past fourteen years now.
