Engineering Challenges and Competitions

Engineering students extend their knowledge and skills beyond the classroom by participating in several state and national engineering competitions. These competitions enhance the relevancy and meaning of their academic study by teaching them what it takes to manage a project from start to finish in a real world setting.

Sherwood students continually place in the top ranks in the state competition and in the top 50 of the international competition. Recent place winners include:

  • Tommy Krisch - Placed 1st, Wes Chan - Placed 2nd, Josh McGraw - Placed 4th and Scott Freeman - Placed 5th in the 2007 Maryland Wooden Bridge Engineering Challenge
  • Sophie Krisch - Placed 7th in the 2006 International Bridge Building Contest
  • Stephen Moy - Placed 19th in the 2005 International Bridge Building Contest
  • Matthem Begley - Placed 19th in the 2004 International Bridge Building Contest
  • Stephen Moy - Placed 40th in the 2004 International Bridge Building Contest
