The Academy of Teacher Education and Early Child Development Program bring rigor and relevance to learning by providing students the opportunity to learn what it takes to be a teacher. Students learn how to plan lessons, teach those lessons, and evaluate instructional practices by working with four year old pre-school students in a real life pre-school setting.

Students in this program will apply their knowledge in a variety of unique experiences that you won't find anywhere else. Activities are challenging, interesting, and rewarding, making it a class students love to attend. Activities include:

  • Child and Adolescent Development I, II, III + Internship
  • Planning, observing, and teaching preschool children in the child development laboratory.
  • First Aid Certification
  • CPR Certification
  • 90 Hour Certification - Child Development 1 and 2 - Upon completion of Child and Adolescent Development 1 and 2 and qualifying for the 90 Hour Maryland state certification.
  • Create and maintain an ongoing portfolio
  • Students earn 20 student service learning hours per year.
  • Apply developmentally appropriate practices in an early child education program for children from birth through adolescence.
  • Individualized study assignment field trips to other educational sites.
  • New classes in the Teacher Education Academy: Teaching as a Profession + Teaching + Curriculum
