All Gazette Announcements 

Basketball 

 2011: Congratulations to Scott Bolen for selection as FIRST TEAM ALL GAZETTE for boys basketball! If you see him, please give him a big high five!! 

 

2011: Congratulations to Kendall Thomas for her selection as Honorable Mention ALL GAZETTE for girls basketball!

 

  

2011: Congratulations to Scott Bolen for being chosen a member of the First Team for All Gameday’s Basketball Award as a junior. If you see him please congratulate him. Check it out here. 

 

Lacrosse 

2010: Congratulations to Michael Begley who was an Honorable Mention in the pre-season All State Lacrosse selections by the Maryland State Lacrosse Coaches Association.  Mike was one of only 2 public school midfielders selected overall.  Mike has previously been selected to the UnderArmour team and the FreeState Team, which represents the best players in Maryland.

 

Soccer  

2010: Congratulations to Mauriccio Navarette.  Mauriccio has signed with and will play soccer for Mount Saint Mary's this coming year. 

 

 

 Volleyball 

2011: Congratulations to Alex Holston for being selected as the 2011-12 Gatorade State Volleyball Player of the Year! 

 

2011: Congratulations to Alex Holston for selection as ALL GAZETTE PLAYER OF THE YEAR!

 

2011: Congratulations to Sydney West for selection as FIRST TEAM ALL GAZETTE.

 

2011: Congratulations to Megan Hewitt for selection as SECOND TEAM ALL GAZETTE.

 

2011: Congratulations to Maddie Moyer for selection as SECOND TEAM ALL GAZETTE.

 

2011: Congratulations to Dominique Parker for Honorable Mention ALL GAZETTE.

 

2011: Congratulations to Morgan McAlpin for Honorable Mention ALL GAZETTE.

2010-2011: Sherwood’s Alex Holston lands volleyball scholarships from Maryland, North Carolina; drawing more interest- check it out!  

 

2009: Dainis Berzins (Sr.) was voted as one of the top 10 senior boys in the nation by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.  Dainis will be continuing his volleyball career next year at Loyola in Chicago.
 

Softball 

2009: Sherwood finished the season as runner-ups in the state final,
after losing to Broadneck, 11-1, at the University of Maryland.

 

Baseball 

2009: The Warriors are the State Champions after beating Chesapeake,
on Saturday, May 29, at Ripkin Stadium.

 

Wrestling 

2009: Sherwood won the Division I dual meet title and
finished 5th in the county championships.
Josh Lowy was the county champ at 152 lbs. (3/6/10)

 

Swimming 

2009: The girls swimming team won the Division II title this past weekend, finishing 1st in the Division II championship meet with 449 points.  The second place team, Northwest, finished with 342 points. The boys team placed 2nd with 387 points, with Blair finishing 1st with 399.5 points.  The combined team also placed first with 836 points. 
Blair was second in the combined with 728 points. (12/10/09)

 

Soccer (Girls) 

2009: The girls varsity soccer team has earned the "Team Academic Award" from the
National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)
for the 2009 academic year. (12/10/09)

 

Football 

2011: Sherwood defeats Damascus, 14-3 in game predicated on a strong defense.  See the story and pictures at this link. (9/30/11)

 

2009: Sherwood Warriors finish the season ranked 14th by the Washington Post, 
with a final record of 10-3.  (12/10/09)

 

Wrestling 

2009: Jim Meehan, Sherwood's Athletic Director, is being inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame (Maryland Chapter) on November 15, at the Loew's Hotel in Annapolis.  Jim has been involved for 45 years as a wrestler, as well as assisting with a variety of programs and tournaments.  The Lifetime Service to Wrestling is given in recognition of years of dedication to the development of leadership and citizenship in young people through the sport of wrestling. Soccer (Boys) 

2009:  Sherwood is now ranked 6th in the Washington Post polls despite an additional loss.  They are now 11-3 and are seeded first in the 4A West division playoffs.  They will face either Paint Branch or Magruder on Tuesday, November 3 at 7 pm. (10/29/09)

 

Tennis (Girls) 

2009: The Sherwood girls tennis team finishes the season as Division 2 champs!  Their overall record was 11-2, but within Division 2, they finished 7-0. (10/15/09)
