Introduction
Established for conception in the 2009‐2010 school year, the Sherwood High School Athletic Hall of Fame will commence its inaugural selection campaign. The Sherwood High School Athletic Hall of Fame is established to promote the achievements of those exemplary student‐athletes, coaches, teams, and contributors to the athletic program. Through diligent and thorough screening of each eligible candidate, the Selection Committee will pledge to maintain the integrity and commitment to the Sherwood High School Athletic Hall of Fame and athletic program. In its inaugural year there will be up to ten individuals inducted into The Athletic Hall of Fame. After the first class has been inducted, the committee will evaluate the process, the ceremony, and the number of individuals to be selected in future years.
Founding Committee
The founding committee was formed of volunteers from the Sherwood High School Warrior Club. The task of this committee was to establish the basis of the Sherwood High School Athletic Hall of Fame, develop by-laws, and set an overall operational framework.

The Sherwood High School Athletic Hall Of Fame will be formulated in conjunction with the Sherwood Warrior Club. It will be advertised throughout the Sherwood community to encourage former athletes, coaches (past and present), administrators (past and present) and community leaders to become members of the Selection Committee.
Selection Committee (suggested)
The selection committee will be comprised of seven adults who would serve for a two-year term in the following positions:
• Chairperson: Head of the Hall Of Fame Committee (1)
• Athletic Director (1)
• Principal or Principal designee (1)
• Coaches (3) (former or current)
• Booster Club Representative (1)
• Community Representative (1) A Sherwood alumnus who lives in the Washington Metropolitan Area.
The selection committee will assign the following tasks to various members:
• Media Coordinator: Communicate with the local media about the inductees to the Athletic Hall Of Fame
• Banquet coordinator: Locate a local restaurant and arrange for the dinner/luncheon
• Awards: Purchase the plaques for the event.
• Secretary: Record and present the minutes of each meeting
• Treasurer: Arrange all financial aspects of this project
• Nomination Coordinator: advertise and distribute the necessary forms each year to the appropriate groups so that nominations can be made
• Host: Coordinate the game-day hospitality and act as master of ceremonies at awards dinner
Selection Process
The Sherwood High School Athletic Hall Of Fame Selection Committee will advertise the nomination process to the community via the print media, our school website, and other forms and sources.

Nomination applications will be online at the school website and also available at the main office and Athletic Directors office. The person(s) nominating any eligible candidate must provide complete contact information as to avoid any inappropriate nominations.
Candidates may be nominated at any time during the school year. In order for a candidate to be nominated, the entire form must be completely filled out and returned to the Nominating Committee by May 1 of the school year.
The selection committee will review each application and discuss potential candidacy. Once a consensus is reached as to eligibility, the nominee will be contacted for any additional information or for an interview if deemed necessary. Once a candidate is nominated, his or her nomination stays on file and will be considered each year unless previously removed by the committee.
The selection committee will meet between May 15th and June 15th of each year to select the inductees, who will then be notified. A candidate will be selected when a two-thirds majority of the committee members vote for induction. The Committee will select ten inductees the first year.
Criteria for Eligibility
All former Sherwood High School student-athletes, coaches, athletic directors, administrators, community supporters are eligible for selection into the Athletic Hall of Fame.
Student-Athlete
The following criteria apply to all Hall of Fame nominees living or deceased:
• Student-athletes must have graduated from Sherwood High School at least ten years prior to nomination
• Student-athlete must have attended Sherwood High School for a minimum of two years
• Clear exemplified characteristics of integrity and sportsmanship, as well as citizenship before and after graduation
• Superior accomplishments as a student-athlete at Sherwood High School (All County, All-State, All-Met, etc.)
Coach
The following criteria apply to all Hall of Fame nominees living or deceased:
• Retirement from the position they once held at the school
• A minimum of two years must have passed since retiring from his or her sport.
• Significant contributions made to the overall athletic program including longevity, overall record, and championships
• Significant contributions to the community or professional organizations at the state or national levels that promote the ideals of the student-athlete
Team
The following criteria apply to all Hall of Fame nominees living or deceased:
• A ten-year period must have passed since the team’s outstanding achievement
Special Contributor or Special Achievement
The following criteria apply to all Hall of Fame nominees living or deceased:
• Special Contributor: This individual lends exemplary support and passion in the assistance of promoting the Sherwood High School athletic program through service and donation of time, leadership, talent, funding, and energy
• Special Achievement: In addition to the same eligibility requirements as the Student-Athlete, this individual is any former Student-Athlete who gains recognition within the national, international or professional athletic arena
Recognition and Presentation
Tour and Afternoon Activities
Prior to the game all inductees will be welcomed back to the school, given a special tour of the building, and participate in the unveiling of the Hall of Fame Wall.
Half -Time Ceremony
At half time of the varsity football game, the inductees for that given year will be honored at midfield with a brief overview of their achievements read over the PA system. VIP treatment will include: assigned personal escorts, preferred seating at the game and pre-game hospitality room.
Awards Dinner
The next day, the Hall of Fame dinner will be held as the official induction ceremony of all inductees. During the dinner each inductee will be introduced, commended for their accolades, presented with a plaque and have an opportunity to speak. If a team is selected, a member of the coaching staff and a member of the team will speak on behalf of the team. Each member of the team will receive a plaque.
Athletic Hall of Fame
A second plaque will be placed in the school’s main lobby area as a permanent reminder of the accomplishments achieved by the individual. The committee will work with the principal to identify an appropriate location within the school for the Hall of Fame.
Once A Hall Of Fame Member
Continuing Code Of Ethics
• The Selection Committee reserves the right to void any Hall of Fame member who falls out of favor with Sherwood High School or the community, in regards to the laws, regulations, and policies governing our town, state, or nation
• The Selection Committee reserves the right to void any Hall of Fame membership, or members who demonstrate behavior unbecoming of a community member or alumnus, with regards to their social behavior and conduct
• The Selection Committee reserves the right to void any Hall of Fame membership for members who cause public embarrassment to Montgomery County Public Schools and Sherwood High School. It shall require a supermajority vote of the then-current selection committee members to remove a member of the Sherwood High School Hall of Fame from membership activity
Financial Issues
The Hall of Fame will be operated and funded by the Sherwood High School Warrior Club.
