including double and RBI in state final win. Finished season

to state title with steady glove and consistent bat (.362, 15 RBI, 25 runs) in leadoff spot.

Kyle Schindel (Jr., Pitcher): Second Team--Picked up both wins in state
tournament in relief. Finished with 8-0 record, ERA under 2.00.

Billy Goodman (Coach): Coach of the Year--Beat top three seeds in
winning second-straight regional title, then guided
Warriors to first-ever state title over C. Milton Wright.

Gymnastics:

Alexa Banda (Sr.): First Team--Came back strong from last year's
season-ending knee injury and returned to form, placing seventh
in all-around at counties (35.95) and sixth at states (36.325).

Liz Kubis (Sr., Midfield): First Team--Defender-turned-midfielder

Kathy Holonich (Sr., First base): First Team--Batted .333 with 27 RBI,
19 runs, adding solid defnese in first season at first base.

Erin McMakin (Jr., Pitcher): First Team--Tallied 120 strikeouts
en route to 18-3 record in leading Warriors to first-ever state final appearance.

batted .450 with 25 RBI and 28 runs scored.

Pat Flanagan (Coach): Coach of the Year--Despite losing last year's
best battery in county to graduation, led Warriors to 18-3 record
and first-ever state final.

Solomon Halle (Jr., 3200 meter): First Team--Broke 35-year old Maryland state meet
record, running 3,200 meters in 9:06.13. Beat old record by 0.87 seconds and
second-place finisher by 22.54.

Arleigh Rose (Sr., Shot put, discus): First Team--Bound for Colorado State,
capped career with two titles each at counties, regionals. Second in
both events at states to Thomas Johnson's Emily Vannoy.

David Gamliel (Sr., Linebacker): First Team--Helped Warriors to county's
best scoring defense (7.6 points per game against) with team-high
95 tackles, including 15.5 for losses.

Dominique Budd (Sr., Defense, All-around): First Team--Player opponents had to gameplan for,
but couldn't. Lined up at quarterback, running back, wide receiver, defensive back and
returned punts. Had 18 touchdowns and 1,168 yards.

Thomas Huff (Jr., Defense Lineman): Second Team--Six sacks, 11 tackles for losses.

Steven Gamble (Jr., Linebacker): Second Team--Finished second on team with 80 tackles.

Nick Koutsos (Sr., Defensive Back): Second Team--Bounced back from
injury-marred junior year to become key cog.

Golf:

Jack Bonifant (Sr. ): Golfer of the Year--Led the county with a 36.5-per round
stroke average, finished third at the District 2 Tournament.

Roger Sampah (Sr., M): Second Team--Ligtning-fast finisher

Leilani Halkiotis (Sr., MF): Second Team--Led team with 5 goals, 7 assists

Volleyball:

Kerry Collins (Sr., S): First Team--The lone holdover from the 2006 4A State champs,
Collins used her experience to steady a young team. After the Warriors started
the season 0-4, they finished strong thanks to Collins, who led them back into the
playoffs with wins in seven of their last nine games.

Baseball:

Drew Hoffmaster (Sr., Pitcher): First Team--Emerged as a top player
while leading Warriors to Maryland 4A semi-finals. Was 12-1 with 0.46 ERA,
allowing just 12 walks in 73-1/3 innings as undefeated Sherwood
advanced to the Maryland 4A championship game. Will play for Catholic University.

batted .424 with a 4 HR, 6 doubles and 25 RBI while going 3-0 with 1.02 ERA on mound.

Drew Hoffmaster (Sr., P): First Team--Crafty huler went 12-1 and won three playoff games
to lead Warriors to 4A state final.

Kyle Blackwell (Sr., P): Honorable Mention

Billy Goodman (8th year): Coach of the Year--Guided Warriors to 21-1 record, with only
loss coming in team's second appearance at Class 4A State final in last years.

Gymnastics:

Jenna Amon (Soph.): First Team--Led resurgent Warriors squad by taking sixth in county
meet's all-around competition with a score of 35.525, including tying for third place on floor exercise.

Elizabeth Bofill (Fresh.): First Team--One of many talented freshmen to take county by storm,
Bofill placed seventh in county all-around (35.5) and placed third on balance beam at states.

Lacrosse (Girls):

Aubrey Mirkin (Sr., M/D): First Team--Showed value at midpoint of season, when
struggling Warriors moved her into defense. From then on, team won eight straight,
making it to third straight regional finals.

Sheelagh Bates (Sr., A): Second Team--Team's leading scorer helped spur
midseason turnaround.

Lacrosse (Boys):

Steven Anderson (Sr., A): Second Team--Warriors' prime offensive threat
tallied 25 goals, 41 assists.

Matt Schneider (Sr., D): Honorable Mention

Softball:

Dana Ward (Sr., P): Player of the Year--Shippensburg-bound lefty
led team to state tournament with 243 strikeouts, 16 shutouts and 0.28 ERA.
Also batted .507 with 24 RBI.

Kelly Morrow (Jr., OF): First Team--Feisty outfielder tracked everything hit her way, then
caught it, finishing with 1.000 fielding percentage. Leadoff batter hit
.444 with 25 runs and 17 RBI.

Katie Obal (Sr., C): First Team--Standout backstop went error-free on defense
and boasted .469 batting average with 25 RBI.

Kathy Holonich (Jr., OF): Second Team--Able to track down just about
anything hit her direction, committing only three errors. Hit .344 with team-high 27 RBI.

Shannon Price (Sr. 1B): Second Team--Reliable second-year starter finished
with .975 fielding percentage and .385 batting average.

Taylor Stockinger (Soph., SS): Second Team--Stalwart in middle infield, committed
just one error; strong on offense with .355 batting average and 21 RBI.

Leah Putman (Sr., Long jump): First Team--Posted area's longest jump of season
(17 feet, 8.5 inches) to win county title, then placed county-best fifth at 4A states.

regional disappointment with state title-winning throw of 119 feet, 7 inches.

Mike Berzins (Jr., Outside Hitter): First Team--Talented and versatile, his preseason
switch from coed to boys helped latter squad to first-ever county championship.

Jeff Moy (Sr., Setter): First Team--Generally regarded as best setter in county,
set table perfectly for many talented hitters on Warrior boys' title squad.

Tommy Young (Jr., Middle hitter): First Team--Flawless in middle all season for coeds, including
several blocks of Ryan Mullsteff [Damascus, Player of the Year] in Warriors' county championship victory.

Chris Wisor (Sr., Middle hitter): Honorable Mention

Pete Siarkas (1st year with boys, 2nd year with coed): Coach of the Year--In first year coaching both
boys and coed, guided Warriors to county titles in both. Led boys to three-game sweep over
Rockville in final, and coed to win over previously unbeaten Damascus.

Deontay Twyman (Sr., Guard): First Team--Also an All-Met quarterback in
football, floor leader was sensational in playoffs, averaging 20.3 points during
the postseason and scoring a career high 26 points in Maryland 4A
championship victory.

Erin Stout (Jr.): Honorable Mention

Wrestling:

Andy Lowy (Sr., 130 lbs.): Wrestler of the Year--Won his third Maryland 4A/3A
championship and finished his career on an 86-match winning streak. Lowy finished the
season 40-0, using a style known as "funk." Will wrestle at Princeton.

Basketball (Boys):

Deontay Twyman (Sr., Guard): Player of the Year--While scoring average (16.0 this season)
actually decreased in each of his three varsity seasons, stepped up contributions in
other areas. By season's end, was leading team in assists (7 per game)
and checking other teams' best players. Saved best for last, capping
career with brilliant 26-point performance in Class 4A state championship game.

Bo Holston (Jr., Guard): Honorable Mention

Dondrell Whitmore: Coach of the Year--Warriors' junior varsity coach a
season ago, stepped right into big time this season. Molded group of holdovers,
JV call-ups and one transfer into true team that could win any type of game.
Finished season with 15 wins in 16 games, including last nine in row, ending
with Class 4A state championship game.

Indoor Track:

Arleigh Rose (Jr., Shot Put): First Team--Had the area's longest throw of season
to win county championship (girls). Also won silver medal at 4A/3A West Region meet.

Swimming:

Heather Denman (Jr.): First Team--Warriors ace racked up top-three finishes in
100 backstroke and 100 butterfly at Metros, took second in 100 backstroke at county meet.

Andy Lowy (Sr., 130 lbs.): Wrestler of the Year--Became county's ninth three-time
state champ with 8-2 win over Old Mill's Timmy Lobuglio. Won 74 straight
matches in past two years. .

Rhett Beattie (Sr., 135 lbs.): First Team--Showed steely reserve in come-from-behind
regional championship victory; won county title and was runner-up in state.

Steven Gamble (Soph., 145 lbs.): First Team--Youngest and biggest of terrific Warriors
trio that all won championships at both county and regional tournaments; second in state.

Brian Moran (Sr., Pitcher/Outfield)--Second Team: Three-year lefty started compiled
a 6-3 record with a 2.00 ERA and eight pick-offs. Also .438 with 2 HRs.

Gymnastics:

Alexa Banda (Soph.)--First Team: Won the vault competition (9.0) at counties
and placed third in the all-around at counties (36.13) and fourth in states (36.625).

Mike Benzel (Sr., Defense)--First Team: Anchored winner of Montgomery 4A East.
Will play for at Pfeiffer (N. C.) University.

Steven Anderson (Jr., Attack) --Second Team: Led Warriors in points (57) and was.
third-leading assist man (32) in MCPS ranks.

Lacrosse (Girls):

Michele Abbott (Sr., Attack)--First Team: Led the Warriors in goals with 56.
Added 24 assists and gathered 74 ground balls for regional finalists.

Aubrey Mirkin (Jr., Defense)--First Team: Defense wizard led team with 95 ground balls and
forced 26 turnovers. Also showed offensive skills, scoring 27 goals.

Samantha Debow (Sr., Goalkeeper)--Honorable Mention

Softball:

Dana Ward (Jr., Pitcher)--Player of the Year: Powerful southpaw crushed previous Sherwood
single-season strikeout record with 256 en route to a 16-3 record and a 0.65 ERA. Held
opponents to a .066 batting average, including 12 shutouts, 8 no-hitters, 1 perfect game,
and 4 one-hitters. Helped herself with a .404 batting average and 25 runs batted in.

Kathy Holonich (Soph., Outfield)--First Team: Tracked down everything hit remotely
close to her for a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage and hit .418 with 25 RBI's.

Katie Obal (Jr., Catcher)--First Team: Threw out 5 of 8 runners who dared to
steal second and led team at plate with .541 batting average and 26 RBI's.

Kelly Morrow (Soph., Outfield)--Second Team: Speedy in field and around base paths.
Scored 19 runs with a .290 batting average.

Patsy Morrow (Sr., 1st Base)--Second Team: Great hands led to .984 fielding percentage.

Wrestling:

Andy Lowy (Jr., 119 lbs.): All-Gazette Wrestling Team--Capped an undefeated season by capturing
his second consecutive state championship. His record was 34-0.

Rheatt Beattie (Jr., 125 lbs.): All-Gazette Wrestling Team--Sidelined for the regional and state tournaments
due to illness, but went undefeated against county competition, winning the county title. His record was 31-1.

Steven Gamble (Fr., 130 lbs.): All-Gazette Wrestling Team--Showed steady improvement over the season, avenging
early setbacks to win county, region, and ultimately a state title. His record was 34-4.
