Seneca Valley High School
Prom/After-Prom
The 2012 Prom is May 19 at the University of Maryland Alumni Center
Prom
The Prom is held in May. Junior and Seniors, and their dates, may attend. The event includes refreshments, dancing, and the crowning of the King and Queen at the Prom Court. In addition, students have the opportunity to have their picture taken.
Information about the Prom and After-Prom, along with graduation information, is also provided to parents of Seniors at the Senior Parent Meeting held in the Spring. Parents of Seniors will receive notification of the meeting. Detailed information is also provided to students when they purchase their tickets.
After-Prom
The Event
The After-Prom event, sponsored by the PTSA, is a drug & alcohol-free party following the prom for the students. The purpose of the party is to provide a safe environment with activities and food as an alternative to other parties. This activity is meant to be more enticing to our students than an evening of possibly engaging in dangerous activities such as drinking, using drugs, or driving under the influence.
Who May Attend
The After-Prom is open to all juniors and seniors regardless of whether they attend the Prom. After-Prom tickets are discounted for students who purchase the ticket with their prom ticket in advance. Tickets may also be purchased at the door with a student ID.
Volunteers
A successful After-Prom requires the efforts of many volunteers. The PTSA After-Prom Committee oversees the planning and spends the school year soliciting donations to provide entertainment activities and prizes for After-Prom attendees. The Gaithersburg/Germantown Jaycees provide food and food-servers at the event.
Parents are instrumental in providing ideas and decorations the weeks before the event, transforming the gym into the annual theme, and chaperoning/supervising the event which begins at midnight. Please check the Eagles Bulletin and the PTSA Newsletter about opportunities to volunteer.
You may also contact the After-Prom coordinators through the PTSA.
