The College Institute The College Institute is a partnership between Montgomery College (MC) and Montgomery County Public Schools to provide an opportunity for high achieving seniors to earn college credits at the SVHS campus. College professors from Montgomery College come to SVHS to teach the courses. Students are concurrently enrolled as Montgomery College students and course grades from the College Institute program appear on their MC transcript. MC courses do not count toward high school graduation, and the grades are not counted as part of the high school GPA. Qualifications for The College Institute:
Certain college courses may also be used as a capstone activity for an optional Academy completion requirement but do not receive a grade from the high school. A 2.75 high school grade point average is a prerequisite for taking a Montgomery College course to fulfill the capstone requirement. There is a charge for college tuition and other college fees, but the application fee is waived. Financial assistance is available through Montgomery College. Montgomery College classes are taught either Tuesday and Thursday or Monday, Wednesday and Friday. They take up the equivalent of 1-2 periods of regular high school class time. For more information about the Montgomery College classes, visit the Montgomery College/College Institute webpage or contact the SVHS Dual Enrollment Coordinator, Ms. Cindy Rampp, 301-601-4378. Also check the SVHS Course Bulletin for more information about the College Institute. |
