Mission

The mission of the Council is to foster a partnership with SVHS by offering collective expertise and support to the students and staff and by participating in school improvement efforts.

Goals

The goal of the Council is to assist and provide means by which the school and educators can...

• Improve GPA & SAT scores
• Increase the number of students who meet the MCPS rigorous college requirement
• Prepare students in becoming college/career capable
• Educate students about career options in a competitive job market

Objectives

1. Help students explore and select educational, vocational and career opportunities
2. Provide information about skills needed to select and complete a college degree
3. Provide real-life opportunities for students to master basic life and work practices
4. Offer students opportunities to improve the community in which they live and work
5. Help students become good citizens by developing leadership skills, self-discipline, ethical reasoning, and patriotic values

Academics - career choice, college selection
Life Skills - organization, leadership, written/oral communication
Work Skills - team skills, internships, vocational training, resume writing, interviewing
