SENECA VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL'S INTENTION TO APPLY FOR AUTHORIZATION TO OFFER THE
I
NTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE PROGRAM

The International Baccalaureate Program (IB) offers a continuum of high-quality education that encourages international-mindedness and a positive attitude to learning. IB programs are accessible to students in 125 countries through the organization’s close cooperation with the worldwide community of IB World Schools. Pending submission and approval by IB of Seneca Valley High School's application to offer the IB Program, we will join six other high schools in Montgomery County which offer an IB Program. The IB Program includes a two-year curriculum and pedagogy, student assessment appropriate to the age range, professional development for teachers, and a process of school authorization and evaluation.

Seneca Valley High School will offer its own "pre-IB" courses as a means of preparing students for a rigorous course of study in the students’ eleventh and twelfth grade years. We will evaluate candidates for admission to our "pre-IB" courses.  After we apply and receive IB authorization to offer the IB Program, in the student’s sophomore year, we will reevaluate for continuance based on performance in "pre-IB" coursework and evident commitment to the IB Program.

Students will be evaluated as incoming ninth graders based on the following items:

1. Most current report card available
2. Two (2) teacher recommendations
3. Response to an essay question

Students who would like to apply for admission to our "pre-IB" program at Seneca Valley High School need to review the application packet with their parents/guardians and teachers.
