Instructional Program

Rosemary Hills is a special focus school with three themes: 1) Computer, 2) Mathematics, and 3) Science. Each theme is described below along with other areas of instruction.

The use of computers is considered a part of (not apart from) the regular curriculum and daily instruction. The teaching of computer skills is integrated into the academic program in the classroom, computer lab and media center. The computer lab is staffed by a computer specialist. Classes visit throughout the year.

All mathematics lessons are taught using a concrete hands-on approach. Lessons focus on development of concepts, problem solving and connection to real world situation.

Science lessons are taught through an exploratory approach with an emphasis on concrete exploration. The science curriculum is integrated into other subjects as well.

Being a primary school, instruction in the English language arts is also of the utmost importance. In first and second grades, children have language arts instruction for an uninterrupted 2 hours and 20 minutes each day. During this time the class size is reduced to approximately 15 children per class. In kindergarten, teachers employ the same types of instructional strategies used in first and second grade reading classes.

Children also learn about the people and places in the world around them during social studies classes. Additionally, students have music, art and physical education classes each week.
