PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) is a process for creating safer and more effective schools. The PRIDE TEAM is committed to facilitating a systems approach to enhancing the capacity of schools to educate all children by developing research-based, school wide, and classroom discipline systems. The process focuses on improving a school’s ability to teach and support positive behavior for all students. Rocky Hill’s PRIDE PROGRAM includes school-wide procedures and processes intended for:
- ALL students, ALLstaff and in ALLsettings
- Non-classroom settings within the school environment
- Individual classrooms and teachers, and
- Individual student supports for the estimated 3-7% of students who present the most challenging behaviors.
The PRIDE PROGRAM IS NOT a curriculum. IT IS a team-based process for systemic problem solving, planning, and evaluation. It is an approach to creating an environment within which school-based teams of educators are trained:
- Systems change
- Effective behavior management principles and practices; and
- Applications of research-validated instruction and management practices.
The PRIDE PROGRAM is starting year two at Rocky Hill Middle School. We expect all students to be Prepared, Respectful, Involved, Disciplined and Excellent! Students who exhibit these behaviors on a consistent and ongoing basis will be recognized by staff members and will be given a paw print sticker. Many students like to display the stickers on their binder! A weekly raffle will take place each Friday on the RH MORNING SHOW and students who have received paw prints that week will have a chance to receive a variety of prizes. Also, as students reach increments of 10 stickers, they will receive items. The first ten, the student will have their picture taken and displayed on the RH PRIDE WALL along with a RH pencil, with twenty stickers students will receive a RH water bottle, with thirty stickers students will receive a RH T-shirt, with forty stickers students will receive a RH nylon backpack and with 50 stickers students will receive a RH Hoodie.
