January 2012:
During the second quarter fourth grade students studied writing to inform. The students brainstormed and created a list of inventions they thought were most important. This was followed by the creation of questions they thought would be important to answer about any invention. Using these guiding questions and online resources students researched an invention of their own choosing, organized their notes, and created a PowerPoint presentation. Below are just a few of the students' invention PowerPoint presentations as well as the guiding questions they developed.

The writing intent for second grade students during the third quarter is writing opinion pieces. After working on several pieces where students learned to state their opinion, give three reasons with supporting details and a concluding sentence, they wrote a piece on their opinion of the best season. They then used a website called Blabberize to record their voice reading their opinion piece. Below are some samples of this.
