Media Center

Mission Statement

The mission of the library media center is twofold in order to ensure students become lifelong independent learners and users of ideas and information.

  1. To integrate the School Improvement Plan and classroom curriculum into Library Media mastery objectives.
  2. To create an atmosphere where all stakeholders feel welcome; including staff, students and community members.

Media Center Hours: 8:30 - 4

Media Center Policies

Book Exchange

Every class comes into the media center once per week for book exchange. Grade K students can get one book. Grades one and two can get two books. Grades three to five can get three books.

Media Classes

Kindergarten and First Grade have a media lesson every week. Grades Two through Five have a media lesson every other week. PEP classes come into the media center for occasional story times.

Adopt-a-Book

Students can adopt a book in the media center. The staff keeps a shelf of new books to be adopted. When a students adopts a book, the student's name is put on or near the title page of the book. The student checks out the new book and gets to be the first one to read the book. The student keeps the book for one week, then returns it to the media center for other students to enjoy. The student also gets a prize from the media center prize box.

To adopt a book the student must bring in $3.00 in cash or a check made out to Rockwell Elementary School.
