Communications Systems Technology


Communications Systems Technology is an experienced-based course that integrates science and mathematics to study systems that are used in a global society. Activities include the study of information technology systems and the dynamics of the communication processes that occur between human to human, human to machine, and machine to machine. Students will use a variety of technology tools to create solutions to real-world problems in communications.

Activities and content areas include: communications systems; computers as a communications tool; the technical design process; electronic imaging and multimedia; audiovisual communications and telecommunications.

The integration of mathematics, science, and other disciplines will be utilized as students manipulate and decode data; create, build and use communications systems; and solve technological problems creatively.

Communications Systems Technology: Semester A

By the end of Communications Systems Technology A, the student will be able to :

  • Explain the meaning and uses of communication in a global society
  • Use a systems model to investigate, design, construct and assess communication systems and components
  • Describe the societal and technological aspects of the communications field
  • Create and manipulate images and symbols through the use of graphic media, communication instruments, and computerized devices.
  • Demonstrate the impact communications technology has on the individual, society, and the environment

Communications Systems Technology: Semester B

By the end of Communications Systems Technology B, the student will be able to :

  • Use acoustical, electronic, and optical systems to interpret, design, construct, and assess communications technologies
  • Demonstrate knowledge of career options in communications that require various types of education and training
  • Apply the organization and operation of a modern information-based industry to the solution of community problems
  • Apply telecommunications principles to the development of a communications system
  • Use audiovisual and computer technologies to present solutions to an authentic learning problem
