at Rockville High school:
Rockville tops the County with nine New national Board Certified Teachers
One hundred educators in Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS)
achieved certification by the National Board for Professional
Teaching Standards in 2008. The educators come from both elementary
and secondary schools throughout the county and represent more than
60 among the 200 MCPS schools, as well as the Infants and toddlers
Program and the Department of Curriculum and Instruction.
Rockville High School was the top school in the county with 9 of the
100 educators. They are:

Student Art Work accepted for Johns Hopkins Art Show
Christina Chang and Teresa Tinta were accepted to exhibit in this year’s Johns Hopkins University art show: Looking Out Looking In. Christina’s painting is Rabbit in the Moon and Teresa Tinta’s is Inventing Imagination.

It's Academic Team wins Montgomery Academic Beltway League Match 3-0
The Rockville It's Academic A Team went across the Pike yesterday afternoon and ran the tables in a Montgomery Academic Beltway League match at Richard Montgomery. The Rams went 3-0, downing Sherwood B, Wooten, and the previously unbeaten perennial powerhouse Richard Montgomery A. Playing a spectacular match were Raheel Awan, Tyler Babich, captain Greg Rind and Erin Strosnider. The wins bring Rockville's record in the League to 8-1. Congratulations to the team on a remarkable showing.

Jazz Ensemble rated Superior!
This past Saturday the RHS Jazz Ensemble performed at the MCPS Big Band Festival at Sherwood High School. For the fifth consecutive year, the Jazz Ensemble received an overall rating of “Superior” (the highest possible) from the judges. Rockville High School Ranked 33rd in Metro Area, 7th in the County
Rockville High School was recently ranked 33rd on The Washington Post's 2008 Challenge Index among 166 area high schools. Rockville rose from a ranking of 48th in 2007. Among Montgomery County schools, Rockville is Ranked 7th out of 25 high schools.
The Washington Post Challenge Index measures a public high school's effort to challenge its students. It is calculated by taking the number of Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate or Cambridge tests a school gave and dividing by the number of graduating seniors.
Congratulations to Amy Broadbent for making the Maryland All State Senior Mixed Chorus and Laura Weiss for making the Maryland All State Senior Women's Chorus.

Marching Band Wins!
The Rockville High School Marching Band earned its third consecutive first place finish at the Brunswick Veterans Days Parade, which was held on November 2nd. Congratulations to all the members of the band!

Nine New National Board Certified Teachers at Rockville
Rockville HS is pleased to announce that we have nine new National Board Certified Teachers at our school. Like board-certified doctors and accountants, teachers who achieve National Board Certification have met rigorous standards through intensive study, expert evaluation, self-assessment and peer review. We now have a total of 10 National Board Certified Teachers at our school, and we are proud that eleven additional Rockville HS teachers are involved in the application process.

Rampage Wins NSPA Best of Show Awards
At the National Scholastic Press Association Fall National High School Journalism Convention on Nov. 13-16, the Rampage received two awards in the NSPA Best of Show categories: Rampage online won Fourth place for Publication Web Site. The Rampage (hard copy) won ninth place for Newspaper 17+ Pages.
Also at the convention, the presentations for the 2008 Courage in Student Journalism Awards were presented to Rockville students Jaishri Shankar & Rachel Wagner as well as to Mr. Daddone and Dr. Munk.
AP Chinese Students Published again in Local Chinese Newspaper
Wenwu Hu and Shiyang Li, students in Mrs. Li's AP Chinese class, were published in the November 14, 2008 issue of a local Chinese newspaper, A & C Business News. Their articles, written entirely in Chinese, discussed the difference between Chinese and American high school students.

Marching Band Competes at the USSBA 20th Anniversary Celebration
Last night the RHS Marching Band took the field for competition for the first time in two years at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore. The band shattered the previous school record, scoring 83.2 out of a possible 100 points. Congratulations to all the Marching Band members for an outstanding season!
Nyamagaga Gondwe has been designated as one of the "Outstanding Participants Referred to Colleges" as part of the National Achievement Scholars Program.
SUPERINTENDENT’S LEADERSHIP PROGRAM
ANNOUNCES CLASS OF 2009 PARTICIPANTS
Nyamagaga Gondwe and Katherine Broadhurst, have been named to The Superintendent’s Leadership Program. They were two of only 16 students selected from from among more than 45 candidates at Montgomery County high schools. The program is the only
humanities oriented honors internship program in the county. The curriculum content and style is
comparable to many college courses. Students in this program are selected for demonstrating outstanding
leadership, academic excellence, and uncommon maturity within their schools and communities.
On Saturday, the Rams won their first It's Academic competition this year. The scores were: RHS with 510 points, Bullis with 320 points, and National Cathedral with 320 points. Splendid performances were given by Captain Greg Rind, Tyler Babich, and Raheel Awan in their first (but not last) time on television.The game will be televised November 29, 2008.
Josh Lerner, Rockville High School, Class of 2008 was awarded the "National AP Scholar" award, by the College Board. The National AP Scholar is Granted to students who receive an average grade of at least 4 on all Advanced Placement Exams taken, and grades of 4 or higher on eight or more of these exams.
Mr. Peter Daddone, Rockville High School journalism teacher, and Dr. Munk, Rockville High School principal are being awarded the 2008 Courage in Student Journalism advisor's award in St. Louis on the same weekend as the student winners from Rockville Jaishri Shankar & Rachel Wagner. They will be traveling to St. Louis to accept the award.
AP Chinese Students Published in Local Chinese Newspaper
Xinghai Cai and Wenwu Hu, students in Mrs. Li's AP Chinese class, were published in the October 3rd issue of a local Chinese newspaper, A & C Business News. Their articles, written entirely in Chinese, discussed the recent trips to China taken by Dr. Munk and Mr. Garcia. The articles covered their impressions of China, the Chinese People, and the differences in the education systems of China and the United States.
Rockville Senior Selected for U.S. Army All-American Marching Band.
Senior Laura Weiss has been selected as one of 97 students nationwide to participate in the U.S. Army All-American Marching Band. The U.S. Army All-American Bowl is the premier high school all-star football game in the nation. It features the nation's top high school senior football players and now, the finest high school senior marching musicians. The U.S. Army All-American Bowl is aired on NBC in January from San Antonio, Texas. Laura will travel to San Antonio over Winter Break, all expenses paid, to take part in various activities and performances, including a halftime performance at the U.S. Army High School All-American Football Game! The organizers of this event are in the midst of a nationwide tour to honor each football player and band member to be designated as an All-American, and the tour will be here for an assembly at Rockville High School on October 22nd. Laura will be playing the mellophone in this ensemble.
On Wednesday, October 8, Rockville High School participated in NIDA's
second-ever Drug Facts Chat Day Program. The event was covered by the
Associated Press (AP). Wendy Roit, one of our special education
teachers, brought the event to RHS. We are very proud that our students

Its Academic Team wins at the Big Train Tournament
On Thursday, September 25, the Rockville Its' Academic team traveled to Walter Johnson to play in the first scrimmage of the year at the Big Train Tournament. With no returning starters from last year's Metro Champion team, Rockville made a statement in the opener, going 3-1, with wins over Paint Branch, Magruder and Sherwood. The only loss was on the last question to Georgetown Day. Playing for the Rams were Asena Acar, Raheel Awan, Tyler Babich, Greg Rind and Erin Strosnider. Congratulations on a Big Start! Go Rams!
