College/Career Research Development (CCRD)

The College/Career Research Development program
consists of three courses: College/Career Research Development, College/Career
Seminar and Site Based Work Experience. Below is a description of each:
- identify and apply the standards in Maryland’s
career development framework
- participate in the career exploration process by
assessing their interests and abilities
- explore and research the world of work, identifying
career pathways that are of interest to them
- demonstrate job seeking skills such as resume
writing and interviewing
- develop and practice workplace readiness skills
(Skills For Success)
- learn the process for setting and achieving
personal and professional goals
- demonstrate proficiency in workplace readiness
skills by refining and upgrading portfolio materials
- Use the selected decision-making process/model
to update and modify their post-secondary plan.
- Use various decision making techniques to handle
conflict and difficulties on the job.
- Learn various methods of business communication
(speaking, writing, reading, listening) to improve communication at the
workplace.
- Develop workplace and business interpersonal
skills including etiquette, diversity, teamwork and leadership.
- Identify the ways to properly terminate
employment, accept critisim on the job and ask for a raise.
- Develop skills to manage personal finances
including budgeting, credit, investing, banking, living on their own and being
a responsible consumer.
College/Career Research Development (CCRD):
Students in College/Career Research Development will
learn self-awareness, complete career exploration activities, and set academic
and career related goals. As a result of taking this course students will:
College/Career Seminar (CCS):
Taken concurrently with Site-Based Work Experience,
students will enhance their job experience by applying skills learned in class
to part-time jobs. Students will integrate the development of student’s
competency in business communication, etiquette, interpersonal skills,
technology, and critical thinking. In addition, students will be
introduced to basic concepts of financial literacy to help them manage their
personal finances. As a result of taking this course, students will:
Site-Based Work Experience (SBWE):
Taken concurrently with CC Seminar, students will be
expected to work a part-time job where they will complete a minimum of 135
hours a semester (an average of 7.5 hours per week). Mrs. Stroot will do
on-site evaluations and assist students with work-related issues during the
Seminar class. SBWE students are enrolled in double period SBWE which would
allow them to leave after 6th period each school day.
