Mission Statement
The purpose of the step team is to bring together parties with the desire to learn and display skills in step through practice and public demonstration. The step team is a recreational extracurricular activity. The skills acquired may help in building creativity for business or personal matters.

What is Step?
Step is a form of expression through the replication of beats, rhythms, and popular music by combining clap, stomp, and dance to achieve a unified display of skill and talent. The step team does not require great physical fitness; however, it can help improve fitness levels if done with integrity.

Practice
Regular practice is held on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 2:20 pm – 4:00pm in room 2115.  When preparing for events and competitions, practices are extended as needed.  Prior notice will be given when practice times change.  Any member missing five practices (without an approved excuse) will be suspended from the step team pending a meeting with the sponsor and captain(s).  Any member missing three performances will be suspended from the step team for the remainder of the semester and must meet with the sponsor and captain(s) before re-joining the team.

Events
We routinely participate in pep rallies, during half-time of Varsity boys’ home basketball games, the Black History Month program, and Class Night.  We also enter one or two step competitions each school year.

Who Can Join
Any student attending Rockville High School may join the step team by 1) meeting eligibility guidelines, 2) attending all try-out week practices and 3) successfully auditioning before a panel of step team members.  Once a member of the step team, continued eligibility is required.  Ineligible members will be allowed to practice, but not allowed to participate in performances.  Ineligible members will be held to the same attendance guidelines as stated above.

Costs
Step team members are responsible for purchasing outfits required for performances.  Outfits range in price from $20 - $100 depending on the accessories.  Typically, we will purchase at least two outfits each school year.  Money for outfits must be submitted 1 month prior to performances in order to participate in the performance unless prior arrangements have been made.
