PBIS

PBIS

Rock Terrace's PBIS program is built around our ROARS program (Respect, Organize, Achieve, Responsible, Safe).

At the end of each class or lunch period, students gather to be awarded ROARS Recognition if they have successfully followed ROARS agreements for at least 80% of the class and have not earned a level 2a. The achievement is recorded as a check, star, or sticker on the classroom’s ROARS recognition chart.

Roars weekly celebrations takes place on the first three Fridays during Project Achieve for the first three weeks of each month. They are earned as:

We can communicate positive behavior expectations by, being good role models, promoting positive behavior often and everywhere through: Classroom lessons, Posters, Videos, Activities and more.

What Is PBIS

PBIS (Positive Behavioral Intervention and Support) is a process for creating safer and more effective schools. PBIS is a systems approach to enhancing the capacity of schools to educate all children by developing research-based, school wide, and classroom discipline systems. The process focuses on improving a school’s ability to teach and support positive behavior for all students. Rather than a prescribed program, PBIS provides systems for schools to design, implement, and evaluate effective school-wide, classroom, non-classroom, and student specific discipline plans. PBIS includes school-wide procedures and processes intended for:

  • ALL students, ALL staff and in ALL settings
  • Non-classroom settings within the school environment
  • Individual classrooms and teachers
  • Individual student supports for the estimated 3-7% of students who present the most challenging behaviors.

PBIS is not a program or a curriculum. It is a team-based process of a systemic approach to problem solving, planning, and evaluation. It is an approach of creating an environment in which school-based teams of educators are trained on:

  • Systems change
  • Effective behavior management principles and practices
  • Applications of research-validated instruction and management practices
