  •  World War I - known at the time as "The Great War" - officially ended when the Treaty of Versailles was signed on June 28, 1919 , outside the town of Versailles , France. However, fighting ceased seven months earlier when a truce, between the Allied nations and Germany went into effect on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. For that reason, November 11, 1918 , is generally regarded as the end of "the war to end all wars." In November 1919, President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed November 11 as the first commemoration of Armistice Day with the following words: To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country's service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of the nations. With that said, Veterans Day is the day set aside to thank and honor ALL those who served honorably in the military - in wartime or peacetime. In fact, Veterans Day is largely intended to thank LIVING veterans for their service and to acknowledge that their contributions to our national security are appreciated. At this time, we would like to acknowledge and thank our veterans: Mr. Ryan Holloran, United States Marine Corp Ms. Lisa Sorensen, Israeli Army. Thank you for serving! We wish everyone a Wonderful Veterans Day!
  •  Attention all student ambassadors: There will be an brief meeting MONDAY, during SOAR for all ambassadors. The meeting will be held in the cafeteria alcove. If you cannot attend the meeting, please see Ms. Douglas.

  • We have some late breaking news this morning. Congratulations to the girls and boys softball teams for their hard earned victories in yesterday's games. The girls walked away with an 8 to 3 victory thanks in large part to a 3-run homer blasted by Frost Byte's own Lizzie Nelson, and the boys team had an equally impressive 13 to 0 victory here on our home field. We really are some of the best softball players on the planet.

  •  I'm sure that all of you have heard about the devastating Hurricanes in Texas and Florida.  Hundreds of schools in Texas and Florida are under water, and many of those schools will not be able to open again.  When school opened for us last week, the majority of you did not have to wonder whether or not you would have the supplies you needed for a successful school year.  Unfortunately, students in places impacted by hurricanes, will not have basic supplies like pencils, markers, and glue sticks.  Operation F.R.E.S.H. Start (Frost Responds to Elevate Students of Hurricanes) is our way of supporting the thousands of school children affected by Hurricanes Harvey and Irma.  Our school-wide supply drive will help provide school supplies to children in desperate need!  A donation bin is located in the main lobby.  We will be collecting items beginning Wednesday, September 13th.  We need you to help elevate and lift those students up by providing the school supplies critical to helping ensure they are prepared for the school year!  We are asking for everyone to bring in the following newly purchased items to donate: Pencils, pens, colored pencils, markers, and glue sticks. We Care Higher…we give higher…we reach higher…we soar higher…because we are Robert Frost Middle School.
