Online Services

The following online resources are available for students to use both at home and at school.  Students can pick up a copy of the logins/passwords from the media center or they can download on from Edline.

Culturegrams Up-to-date information on 182 countries and cultures.  Twenty-five categories are tracked including history, land and climate, religion, personal appearance, gestures, language, government, family, dating and marriage, etc. 

Encyclopaedia Britannica - Products include: Online School Edition (includes 3 encyclopedias to meet needs of all students), Online Academic Edition, Annals of American History, Global Reference Center, Spanish Reference Center: Gran Encyclopedia Planeta y Enciclopedia Juvenil, Student News Net, Webster's Third New International Dictionary Unabridged and World Data Analyst  

History Reference Center The database includes more than 300 reference books and encyclopedias; 58,000 historical documents; 43,000 biographies; and more than 100,000 images and historical maps. 

Image Quest - Access two million rights-cleared images from over 50 of the best collections in the world. Students will turn to the site as they work on homework assignments and school or course projects. Free of advertising and from trustworthy sources, Image Quest provides safe and fast access to high quality images on all topics and for all ages. 

Issues and Controversies  Explores today’s controversial issues in depth and at a level student researchers can understand.  Includes pro-con viewpoints, timelines, primary source documents, statistical tables, editorial cartoons, newspaper editorials, and interviews with experts, which provide context andperspective.  

NoodleTools  Comprises an online bibliography (works cited), composer, and note-taking tool.  The student inputs the information necessary and prints out the bibliography.  Students also can take notes online using this service 

Science Reference Center Includes science periodicals,  reference books, encyclopedias, essays, biographies, animations, images and videos.  Supports all science disciplines. 

Student Resource Center, Jr. Databases of curriculum—targeted primary documents, biographies, topical essays, critical analysis, full-text coverage of newspapers and periodicals.  These databases are an excellent resource for information across the curriculum.   

SIRS Decades covers the 20th century decade by decade. 

SIRS Discoverer The database includes carefully selected full-text articles and images  international newspapers, magazines, government documents, and websites for elementary and middle school students especially although serves a purpose at all levels. 

SIRS Knowledge Source  includes SIRS Researcher, SIRS Pro/Con, SIRS Renaissance, current perspectives on the arts and humanities, SIRS Web Select, a student search engine with editorially selected websites and SIRS Interactive Citizenship, interactive books on U.S. citizenship. 

Teachingbooks.net  A  unique service that provides up-close and
personal interviews (multimedia abounds!) with some of the most loved and respected children and young adult authors.  Includes  lesson plans and other resources for use by language arts teachers and for students.  Covers many of our core and anchor text authors.
 

U.S. History In Context . Includes collections of primary and secondary resources to support the study of United States history.  The database includes country and era overviews, full-text periodicals, audio and video clips of historic speeches, and much more.

 World Book Online  Products include World Book Student, World Book Kids and Enciclopedia Estudiantil Hallazgos, a spanish language encyclopedia. 

 21st Century Explorer - This site  provides online reference and learning tools for students who read below grade level, have specific learning problems, or are at risk of falling behind. This user-friendly collection contains all of the resources that students need including encyclopedias, an atlas, historic timelines, a dictionary, news, and other essential learning tools.
