Principal’s Message
So little time, and so much to do! The final days of school are flying by, but there are still quite a few fun activities that I hope you can participate in before the final day of school.
First off, Field Day will be held on June 1st. There are two critical times when we need volunteers: Before school to assist with set up (any time between 7:00 and 9:00 a.m.), and during morning field day activities (from 9:30 - 11:30). If you are able to volunteer during either of these times, please complete the form on the attached page of the newsletter and return it to Ms. Amos, our PE teacher.
Second, our annual spring carnival will be held on the evening of June 1st. This will be a great time to have fun with your family playing carnival games, socializing with friends, and enjoying lots of fun! This is a fundraiser for our school, and so games and other activities will cost money. Mark your calendars, wear some comfortable shoes, bring some cash and come to the carnival!
June 5th is our annual PTA picnic. This year, we are trying something new with a pot luck dinner. If you are able to join us, please complete the form on the attached page of the newsletter and return it to the office. Then, grab a blanket to sit on, bring your food, and we will see you out back of school on the grass for a pot luck / picnic dinner.
June 6th is our spring concert -- both our chorus and instrumental music groups will be performing. The evening concert is free and begins at 7:00 p.m. in the all purpose room.
June 11th is our final PEACE assembly in the morning at 9:30 and our Run the Diner Night at Silver Diner that evening. Both are great opportunities for you to celebrate another successful year with your child at RCV.
I hope to see many of you at these events!
Summer Basketball
There is an opportunity to participate in summer basketball camps for any interested students who are going into grades 4, 5, & 6 in the coming school year.
If you are interested in having your child try out for these camps, please note the following tryout times: (please see next pageJ)
- tryouts for 4th grade at Meadow Hall on the 29th from 6-8 p.m.
- tryouts for 5th grade at Meadow Hall on the 31st from 6-8 p.m.
- tryouts for 6th grade at Rockville High School on the 30th from 7-9 p.m.
If you have questions, or want additional information, please contact Mr. Goldberg at Benjamin_Goldberg@mcpsmd.org.
Talent Show
If you enjoyed RCV's Talent Show last Thursday, please consider volunteering for next year!
The PTA is looking for one or several parents to chair this wonderful event. Without the help of our parents, RCV would not be able to put on so many nice events each year, so we hope that somebody will be able to continue this tradition next year. Please contact Martina Skoglund (martina.skoglund@gmail.com) if you have any questions or would like to volunteer.
And a big THANK YOU to Karen Leighton and her helpers for putting on a fantastic show this year!
The PTA
Thank You Silver Diner!
The Rock Creek Valley staff and students would like to thank The Silver Diner in Rockville for supporting The STAR Studded Event, our annual reading award party. Silver Diner donated sandwiches and sliders for students to snack on during the event. In addition, each STAR Reader received a 110% Award For Excellence which entitles each student to a free kids meal at the Silver Diner. Many thanks!
Lost & Found
We are nearing the end of the school year and there are a lot of items in the lost & found. If your child has lost or misplaced something at school this year and has not found it please encourage them to check the lost and found. At the end of the school year any items left at school will be donated to a charitable organization.
PTA volunteers needed for next school year!!
1. We need one or more volunteers to help organize the Book Fair for the next school year. As usual, we will have one Book Fair in the Fall (September) and one in the Spring (April). This year's organizers are willing to help, but are unable to take the lead for next year. If interested, please contact Kelly Monroe (bkmdb@comcast.net; 240-221-3119).
2. We also need one or more individuals to organize our Fall fundraiser. In past years, this has been the sale of Sally Foster wrapping paper, however, we currently looking into the possibility of other fundraising opportunities. This fundraiser helps to support all of the PTA's activities (family dance, family fun night, international night, class parties, talent show, etc..). If interested, please contact Kelly Monroe (bkmdb@comcast.net; 240-221-3119).
