Message from the Principal
This week’s message is
really more of a request for assistance. With the
recent ups and downs in daily temperatures, our lost and
found has grown by leaps and bounds as students wear
their sweaters and jackets outside to recess and then
leave them behind when they get too hot. While we
collect anything that students leave behind at recess,
it only goes as far as the coat hooks in the all purpose
room if we are not able to reunite abandoned clothing
items with their owners. So, we are asking for your
help. PLEASE label your child’s jackets (and hats,
gloves, etc.) by either marking their initials or their
names on the inside label. If you could use a permanent
marker to do this, it would be great! Having this
identification makes it SO MUCH EASIER for us to get
clothing items back to students.
Thank
You!
Our Halloween parade and parties were a huge success,
thanks in large part to the many parents who helped plan
parties, provided treats, and stayed to organize fun
games and crafts for our students. We had over 150
parents join us for the festivities! While we enjoy
having visitors for special events, please remember that
you are welcome every day of the year! Children love
having their parents involved in their education, and by
being in school you are able to see what your children
are working on and how you can best support them at
home.
Peace
Assembly
Please join us for our first Peace Assembly of the
year, Friday, November 13th at 10:30 a.m. in
the Gymnasium. We will be acknowledging our Peace
Makers from the first marking period. If you can
possibly attend, please do!
The
Health Room Needs Children’s Clothes
There is a need in our RCV Health Room for boys and girls
pants and shirts (especially for the older children).
Very often clothes get wet or muddy from outdoor recess
or from in school accidents, therefore, we are looking
for any gently used children’s clothing of all sizes,
Grades Pre-K – Grade 5.
Flu Clinics – H1N1 – Some Cancelled
The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human
Services has advised us that the previously scheduled
H1N1 (swine) flu vaccination clinics on November 4,
November 11, and November 18 at Northwood, Northwest and
Rockville High School have been cancelled due to
shortages of H1N1 vaccine. For up-to-date information
about vaccine availability, visit the county’s website,
www.montgomerycountymd.gov/h1n1flu or call the flu
hotline at 240-777-4200.

Middle School Magnet Applications
Materials for the programs at Eastern and Takoma Park
Middle Schools are available online at
www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/curriculum/
specialprograms/.
Please take a few minutes to review these
materials and consider completing an application if your
child will be going into 6th grade and you
are interested in having your child attend one of these
programs next year.
Upcoming Parent/Teacher Conferences
We would like to remind you that parent conferences are
scheduled for the week of November 9-13th.
On Wednesday and Thursday, November 11th and
November 12th , students have an early
dismissal at 1:00 p.m. These conferences provide a
great opportunity for parents to hear detailed
information about their child’s performance during the
first marking period. We ask that all parents try to
meet at their assigned day and time since we will have
very little ability to make changes in the conference
schedule.
Clothing Drive!
This
year RCV is participating in M-A-C Recycling’s Used
Clothing Collection Fundraiser. M-A-C Recycling sends
collected donations to third world countries as well as
donating some locally. Additionally, a percentage of
the proceeds are contributed to D.A.R.E./Safe & Drug
Free Schools in our area; RCV will earn $0.10 for every
pound donated. M-A-C Recycling supports numerous great
causes and we are excited to be a part of it!
