Message from the Principal
As we celebrated Veteran’s Day this week and remembered
those who have served our country, I was once again
reminded of how lucky I am to be part of the learning
community here at RCV -- a school where service is
exemplified through the generosity and commitment to
student learning shown by our staff and parents. I want
you to know how much I appreciate this and how much your
involvement in your child’s education makes a
difference. With this in mind, I am also asking for
parents that might be interested in committing some time
to reading with students at school. In some of our
classrooms, we have been trying to increase the amount
of time that students are able to read with an adult.
While reading independently is always good; having an
adult to read with who can ask questions of students,
assist with decoding, and share the enjoyment of reading
is something that is even more beneficial to some of our
struggling readers. Specifically, we are looking for a
few parents who would be able to make a commitment to
coming in one or two days a week for about 30-40 minutes
and read with some students in classrooms. If you are
interested and able to serve RCV in this way, please let
me know. Once we have a few parents identified, we will
set up a time to meet and talk about specific schedules
and “reading buddies.”
Thanks for your Generous Donation of Clothes for our Recent
Clothing Drive!
The
giant boxes in the atrium have been filled and are
overflowing with donated clothing, shoes, and linens!
As you know, RCV will earn $0.10 for every pound
donated. After our pick-up on Monday, we will let you
know how much money was earned.
Sally Foster Orders
are Here!
Sally Foster orders will be available for pick-up at RCV
today (November 13th) from 3:30 – 4:30 p.m.
in the atrium area outside the school’s front office.
A Yummy
Fundraiser
RCV is creating a cookbook of recipes from our families
and staff. We want it to be a unique collection of yummy
dishes that shows off the many different cultures and
flavors of our community, so please think about your
favorite home-made dish and share it with us! Once the
cookbook is complete, we will be selling it as a
fundraiser to support our overall instructional program
at RCV. You may submit your recipes online, via email or
hardcopy. To submit recipes online simply go to
www.typensave.com. Enter your name as you would like
it to appear in the cookbook and the login is
rcves and
password is
rcv. You will be prompted to fill out the form provided! Recipes can be
emailed to Mrs. Valle at
Gail_N_Valle@mcpsmd.org or can be dropped off in
the "Cookbook" box in the main office. Please include:
1) Recipe title, 2) Your name as you would like it to
appear in the cookbook, 3) Contact information to be
used solely by our committee in case there are any
questions about the recipe (will not be published), 4)
Category (appetizer, soup, main dish, etc.), 5) List of
ingredients with measurements (pt., qt., 16oz pkg.,
tsp.), and 6) directions for preparation and cooking
(temperatures, times, chilling).
You may submit as many recipes as you'd like - the more
delicious food, the better!

Getting Emergency Weather Information
Winter weather, such as snow and ice, and other
emergencies may cause disruptions in school operations,
including the closure of school, a delayed opening or an
early dismissal. Announcements of school closings or
delays are made as early as possible, generally in time
for news broadcasts that begin at 5 a.m. If schools are
closing early, those announcements are made by 11 a.m.
There are several ways to get the latest information on
closings or delays:
·
Parents can subscribe to the MCPS QuickNotes e-mail news
service to receive emergency information. Subscribe at
www.mcpsquicknotes.org. Be sure to select the school
your child attends.
·
The MCPS home page at www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org
displays emergency announcements in bold red letters at
the top of the page.
·
The ASK MCPS Telephone Information Center at
301-309-6277 has English- and Spanish-speaking operators
from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
·
MCPS information telephone line at 301-279-3673 has
recorded information 24 hours a day.
-
Local radio and TV stations and MCPS Cable Channel
34 broadcast the information.
