Dear Parents,
Summer is a time to relax, regenerate, and refresh for students, teachers and parents. We know that students are eagerly anticipating time to choose their own activities, and enjoy the warmth of sunshine and friends.

We also want to encourage students to practice the strategies they have learned, keeping their minds and skills sharp. Toward that end, we want to provide materials for you to use over the summer. Students entering grades 1-5 received a list of summer reading suggestions from the Potomac Public Library early in June. You can get a complete copy of these reading suggestions by visiting the Montgomery County Library Summer (MCPL) Reading webpage. We encourage all our students to not just read books from the list but to participate in the MCPL program. It is rewarding and offers a variety of reading related activities, experiences (and even prizes!).

You may also wish to look at reading lists from the American Library Association , The New York Times, or Barnes and Noble to find additional subjects, titles, and reading challenges that best suit the needs of your student. Click here for great reading discussion questions. In addition to reading, students have the opportunity to keep a writing journal. Click here for writing suggestions.  

Math packets are also available. They come with a student packet and a parent packet that provides answers and suggestions to enable you to complete and check the packet together. These packets are available on the Potomac Elementary website, or in the rounder in front of the office during the summer.

These summer reading, writing and math activities keep learning in the forefront. Please use them as they fit your family plans and goals. If students return the completed activities to their new teachers, they will receive special recognition by the PES Staff.
