Media Club

MC1Fifth grade students in media club produce a newscast called “Potomac Beat.” The show is broadcast live from our TV studio on the closed circuit television station purchased with funding from the PTA . Students report on activities occurring in the school, current events, community activities, sports and even weather. The program is shot using two digital video cameras . Club members control audio and a teleprompter, and they communicate between the control booth and the studio floor using microphones and headsets.

MC2Club members also use hand held camcorders and microphones to record features of various school events. These features are edited using computer software and used on Potomac Beat or broadcast as a separate news magazine.

Potomac Beat was entered in the 2006 MCPS Media Festival for the first time and took 3rd place for News Programs in the 3-5 category of News Show.

"Potomac Beat" won 1st place for live news program grades 3-5 and "Potmac Beat News Magazine" tied for 1st place in the the news magazine 3-5 category in the 2007 MCPS Media Festival

The media club is sponsored by:MC3
