2nd to 5th Grade

Time: Tuesdays from 8 to 9am
Dates: 11 weeks session begins September 16, 2008
            (Sept 16, 23; Oct 7, 14, 21, 28; Nov 11, 18, 25; Dec 2, 9)
              
The Chess Club follows the Montgomery County School Calendar and does not meet on school holidays, or when school is cancelled.  If chess club is cancelled due to school closing, the instructor will add one make-up day to the end of the session.

Place: Potomac Elementary School, Media Center

Instructor:Victor Sherman is a Chess Master with over 25 years experience teaching chess.  Some of Victor’s current and former students include several well-known Grandmasters.  Victor has taught similar beginner sessions at many Montgomery County schools.

Format: Class is open to students of all levels – beginners learn how to play chess, while more experienced students work on improving their strategy.  A portion of each class is devoted to instruction and a portion to play (students are matched with those of similar ability).   Students participate in a chess tournament during the last several classes.
