Administration

Linda Goldberg, Principal

Linda GoldbergI love being the Principal of Potomac Elementary School!

Because we are an Arts Integrated Model school, I get to facilitate collaboration between classroom teachers and dynamic specialists who, in addition to being professional educators, are artists, musicians, and athletes in their own right. Everyday I witness the students working on core MCPS curriculum enriched by experiencing every area of the arts. The energy and enthusiasm toward not just the arts, but to the climate of learning in general, is inspirational.

I’m humbled by how much goes on in a day; in one part of the building I will hear students speaking and learning Chinese; in another I’ll witness a meaningful lesson that incorporates technology instruction; turn a corner and a group of students will be learning science with music; turn another and they’ll be discovering geometry with paintbrushes.

Still, it’s more than just what we learn or how we learn it; it’s also how open our students are to learning that makes Potomac special. The families of Potomac set high standards of behavior for their children. I regularly hear from substitute teachers and other visiting educators about how much they enjoy working with our students – and how willing they are to come back! It’s rare that I have to discipline a student or call a parent because of disrespect or disruption. Students are eager to help others and are regularly rewarded with a “Potomac Star,” an acknowledgement of being caught exhibiting a positive character trait.

You can see why I love my job the way I do. Potomac serves a diverse community of families who send their children to school each day ready to learn. My talented and dedicated staff provide a rigorous curriculum and motivate the children toward achievement. The students reflect their knowledge in more than just high test scores, but in their everyday words, actions, and attitudes toward scholarship as well as community.
