Canoeing Trip

This was an exciting trip, allowing students to explore one of our local treasures, the Potomac River. Students canoed down the Potomac river in groups of two or three to a canoe. During these experiences, students learned basic canoeing skills with an emphasis on water safety. They learned about resource management in regards to recreation and watershed preservation. Mr. Savino added a bonus physics lesson using the dual purpose canoe/whiteboard to illustrate his lesson!

Wild Montgomery Expedition and Megatransit

Over Earth Day weekend, students had the opportunity to hike the Greenway Trail with local experts and take data as they hiked along. Over the 4 days, students traveled portions of a 25 mile green corridor through Montgomery County. Data waypoints were located and marked, so that future research could be conducted using the same protocols at the same locations.

Planting Bay Grasses

Senior Global students plant and cultivate bay grasses in the green house over the year for their senior project. Over the course of the year, 10th grade students help maintain the beds as well. At the end of the year, the grasses are transported to a local watershed and planted in a restoration of the SAV (Submerged Aquatic Vegetation) project.
