Global Ecology offers
interested juniors an opportunity to pursue an internship in their
senior year. The internship program is designed for those students who
want to pursue areas of interest outside the classroom as a way of
expanding their knowledge, exploring possible career paths, and
interacting with professionals in their field of interest. In general,
students take classes in the morning at Poolesville High School and
attend their internships in the afternoon. In some cases, students are
able to return to school for after-school activities such as sports, the
play and club activities.
This year students have internships with NIH, Hood College, Peachtree Veterinary, Penny Archer Marion Dupont Scott Equine Medical Center, Uniform Service University Health Sciences, and the Gazette.

Interested 11th grade students should talk this over with their parents,
guidance counselor, and the internship coordinator, Ms. Bailey.
The next step is for
students to identify where they would like to intern. Ms. Bailey has
some contacts but students are encouraged to explore additional ideas
and contacts on their own. Students, parents and Ms. Bailey work
closely together throughout the spring until an appropriate placement is
found.
Students who have
participated in the internship experience have found it rewarding and
challenging. Internships do not fit the academic needs of all students,
but for students looking for hands on, “real life” experience, it is a
terrific opportunity. The high quality of our internship positions have
translated into valuable experiences for our students.
If you are interested,
please contact Ms. Bailey in order to explore this idea further. Ms.
Bailey can be reached by email at Joyce_N_Bailey@mcpsmd.org
