Academic Probation
Academic excellence is the first priority at PHS. Students are placed on academic probation for the magnet programs at PHS if they have at least 2 C’s on their report card. Academic probation letters are sent out after the 1st and 3rd nine weeks of each school year. The timing of the letters is critical because only semester grades are recorded on the official transcript. There is still time after the 1st and 3rd nine weeks for improvement. The intent of the letters is to initiate positive dialogue in the home about work study habits.
Please contact the teacher first if a grade is in question. Know that the counselors are very willing to set up a conference to discuss the academic progress of your child (301-972-7909). A mandatory conference to discuss proper placement will be held for students who have two consecutive semesters with a GPA of less than 2.0. The PHS staff is part of a team, with parents included, to allow your child to achieve their full potential.
