Counselor's Corner

Meet the Counselor

Welcome to Kensington Parkwood’s Counseling Corner! This page has been created to keep you informed about the counseling program at Kensington Parkwood Elementary. My name is Elizabeth Wert and I am the school counselor.  I look forward to working with you and your children.

Mission

The mission of the counseling program at Kensington Parkwood Elementary encourages all students to achieve success through a comprehensive, developmentally appropriate program that focuses on academic, personal, social and career development. This is achieved through the delivery of guidance lessons and counseling activities, as well as through a collaborative effort between the home, school and community.

Counseling Office

Individual short-term Counseling:

One-on-one counseling support is available to all students in grades K to 5. This support is intended to address specific emotional, behavioral or social concerns that a particular child may have. Students may self-refer or be referred by teachers and/or parents. Confidentiality is respected.

Group Counseling:

Group counseling is provided for small groups of students experiencing similar concerns. These may include resiliency, making and keeping friends, anger management, coping with separation/divorce and or loss, getting organized/study skills and/or improving self-esteem. The groups generally range from 4 to 6 students and last for 6 to 8 sessions. The students for groups can be recommended by parents/guardians or by staff members. Permission slips must be signed by parents for students to participate in groups.

Classroom Guidance Lessons:

Guidance lessons are done throughout the year within homerooms. Some example topics include: conflict resolution, social skills, character education, friendship, and bullying prevention. Additional lessons will be available to address specific classroom needs.

Consultations:

I am available to meet with teachers, administrators and/or parents to discuss the needs of individual students. I am here for all students and want to ensure that your child has a productive and positive school year. If I can support your child in anyway, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

In addition to class lessons and counseling options, I serve as the coordinator for the following programs: Peer Mediation, Student Council, PBIS Coach, CICO Coordinator and 504 plans.
