"It is possible with great determination, hard work, and self reliance to overcome seemingly insurmountable odds." –Dr. Ben Carson

Our Mission

Dr. Ben Carson believes in thinking big.  Even though he was born very poor, and was one of the worst students in his elementary school, Dr. Carson overcame these challenges to become one of the most famous surgeons in history.  His story helps provide a model for achievement that we in the Carson House hope to follow.  We want ALL of our students to take advantage of their opportunities so that they can accomplish big things in their future.  According to Dr. Carson and his story, we can do this by:

1.      Working hard, reading, and staying in school

2.      Being nice to the people around us

3.      Getting involved in school activities

4.      Not making excuses

5.      Daring to believe that we can achieve great things

House Policies

As a member of the Dr. Ben Carson House, we will be working together to achieve excellence through effort.  As a house, we will try to help you adjust to Paint Branch and excel both in and out of the classroom.  To help us achieve this goal, we expect all students in the Carson House to follow the following policies:

1.      Students will respect each other, themselves and the school at all times.

2.      Students will be in their desk, ready to work when the bell rings to start class.

3.      Students will follow the rules spelled out in their agendas, paying special attention to:

a.      Keeping electronic devices away and off during the school day

b.      Not bringing food or drink into the classroom

4.      Students will bring their notebooks, agendas, and any needed supplies to class every day

How We Will Achieve Excellence through Effort

Your teachers, counselors, and administrators have worked very hard to try and put in place mechanisms that will help you succeed.  By providing a challenging curriculum, and helping you adapt to life at Paint Branch, we know you will do well.  But, as Dr. Carson says, "An individual must believe in himself and his abilities. To do his best, one needs a confidence that says 'I can do anything and if I can't do it, I know how to get help.'"  You need to put forth your own effort, and ask for help when you need it.  Following policies and believing in the mission will result in rewards.  NOT following the policies will only result in frustration.  Remember, Excellence through Effort!
