Olney Elementary School Media Center, serves about 600 students, from kindergarten through fifth grade, and all staff members. The media center is home to over 13,000 books as well as audio books, PlayAways, educational DVDs, videos, magazines, and reference materials.

The instructional media center (IMC) is a classroom where all students are encouraged and prepared to become life-long learners by practicing the skills necessary to help them explore ideas, frame questions, solve problems, and satisfy their own curiosity. The instructional media center and the roles of the media specialist are crucial in assisting schools to meet the new standards, while educating students to deal with an information-saturated world.

This information center of the school goes by many names. Whether it's referred to as library media center, media center, instructional media center, or the library, this is the special place where students and staff are equipped with tools and strategies for lifelong learning.

Visit the media center frequently online or while you are at school.

Mission and Vision

Mission

We, the students and staff of Olney Elementary School, will always give our best effort and work together to become independent users of the media center and life-long learners.

Vision

The Olney School Library Media Program is essential to student learning and achievement and is integral to the entire educational process. It provides all students and staff members with equitable and timely access to ideas and information in a variety of formats. Through a collaborative integrated instructional program, the media specialist and classroom teachers will teach students to be effective users of ideas and information. By helping students acquire information literacy skills, which are essential to mastering curricular content, critical thinking, and problem solving - the media program supports lifelong reading and learning.
