Student Government
Olney's SGA is made up of class representatives from each class in grades 3 through 5. Each rep. is responsible for attending monthly meetings, after school, and bringing information back to their class and to the kindergarten, first, or second grade class that they represent.
SGA supports our school and the needs of the community. Through the ongoing efforts of the SGA, students experience the powerful feeling that comes from achieving a goal that benefits others. They sponsor several worthwhile projects throughout the year, such as the Canned Food Drive, Valentines For Vets, Candy Sale, Pennies for Patients, and School Spirit Week. During March OES students will collect pennies as well as other coins, cash, and checks to help the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society .
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is the world's largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research, education and patient services. The Society's mission is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. Since its founding in 1949, the Society has invested more than $360 million for research specifically targeting blood cancers.
The Pennies for Patients campaign began in the Society's North Carolina Chapter in 1995. Since then more than 10 million pre-school, elementary, middle and high school students throughout the country have raised millions of dollars in pennies and other spare change. The funds, collected during a three-week period each year, directly benefit the Society's mission.
So start saving those pennies. They can make a BIG difference!
