"Renaissance" is a national program designed to motivate and encourage all students by recognizing them for academic excellence, improvement, and citizenship. The Renaissance Program is a Sherwood Cluster initiative that was established in 1997. The Renaissance committee is made up of staff members and three parent representatives.  The goal of the program is to: respect, recognize, reward and reinforce what our students are doing here at OES. Throughout the year students are recognized for their achievements in many different ways. 

OES Renaissance AssemblyRenaissance Assemblies are held quarterly for students in grades 1-5. The staff and students gather in the All Purpose Room and listen to fifth grade instrumental music students play selected songs while we honor academic achievements.

 

Principal's List/High Honors - These awards recognize students who achieve "High Honors" or the "Principal's List" as determined by the Learning Skills section of the report card according to the following criterias:

  • High Honors - 5 out of 7 possible "Independent"s— with NO "Frequent Prompting"s or "Rarely"s

  • Principal's List - 6 out of 7 possible "Independent"s— with NO "Frequent Prompting"s or "Rarely"s

Olney Dragon AwardDragon Awards - This award recognizes students who make their classroom, school, and community a better place to learn and live in. Two students per homeroom, per grading period, may be recognized with the Dragon Award. This is accomplished when students:

  • Demonstrate good manners and kind words.
  • Obey rules and respect authority.
  • Accept responsibility for their actions.
  • Make home, school, neighborhood and community a better place.
  • Demonstrate leadership abilities.
  • Demonstrate success in the classroom over a consistent period of time.
  • Perform satisfactorily or better in all subject areas (no needs improvement or grades less than "C" have been earned during that grading period.
  • Demonstrate outstanding/satisfactory work-study skills.
  • Demonstrate satisfactory attendance.

hardwork cafe certificateHard Work Café - This award recognizes students who demonstrate exemplary effort/performance on an instructional task, assignment, or unit of study. A maximum of three students can be recognized per teacher every time the Hard Work Café is offered. Specialists are encouraged to send students to the Hard Work Café as well.

Outside Achievements - Individual achievements in the community will be recognized as reported by parents, community members, and staff. Achievements in team sports will not be recognized in this category.

Bricks of Kindness wallBricks of Kindness - Bricks of Kindness recognize students for acts of kindness to peers as well as staff members. A paper brick is placed upon the Dragon bulletin board in the cafeteria if a student is "caught" doing some act of kindness for their classmates or a staff member.  All staff members are encouraged to use this method to recognize and encourage students. Staff members can also give Bricks of Kindness to other staff members. Next time you're in the school drop by this bulletin board to see our "Wall of Kindness" grow.

OES Shing Stars BoardShining Stars -- As you walk through the hallway you'll notice "Shining Star" boards next to each classroom's door.  The teacher places a star on the board when a student has done an outstanding or unusually good job on a classroom activity. Biweekly the Stars will be collected and given to the classroom teachers to send home with students.

Star Staff Award - Staff members will be recognized by their peers for acts of kindness, for dedication to students, staff, and community, and for commitment to professional growth. Recognition will take place through Star Staff Bricks and Star Staff Drawings. When a staff member is recognized, a Star Staff Brick with the recognized staff member's name on it will be posted in the lower hallway near the crossroads. The recognized staff member's name will also be entered in a weekly, monthly, quarterly and yearly Staff Star Drawing. staff shining star award

  • The weekly drawing will take place on Fridays and the staff member selected will receive access to the Star Staff Parking Place.
  • The monthly drawing will take place on the last Friday of the month and the staff member selected will receive a gift certificate to one of our local breakfast establishments.
  • The quarterly drawing will take place on the last Friday of each marking period and the staff member selected will receive a gift certificate to one of our local dining establishments.
  • The yearly drawing will take place on the last professional day of the year for staff and the staff member selected will receive a pair of tickets to an exciting event to be determined later.
